While it is widely projected that the transition to battery electric vehicles (BEVs) will reduce the need for assembly workers by approximately 30% compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, our recent findings suggest a different trend. Labor intensity has, in fact, increased in U.S. vehicle assembly plants that have fully transitioned to BEV production.
