An Impressive Variety of Designs

The huge variety of categories for design excellence is impressive, but one of the categories of particular interest to Battery Technology readers is Transportation. For example, the 2020 winner in the Other Transportation category was a Sherpa Mini-Loader, designed for heavy indoor construction jobs. Created by Stan Maes Product Design from Belgium The Sherpa Z10 has an all-electrical battery-powered drive train, that makes loud noises and bad air quality at indoor construction sites a thing of the past. The Z10’s width is only 76 cm makes it possible to enter almost any building and in unsafe environments workers can control it remotely. Particular attention was paid to the ergonomics of the dashboard which has been are optimized to reduce fatigue while providing accurate control over the machine.

In 2020 The Winner Was…

In 2020, the coveted Product Designer of the Year award went to the design team at Foster + Partners of the United Kingdom. Working for their client LG, the team created a flexible television screen, which can be automatically rolled in and out of a discreet minimalist rectangular enclosure when needed. The enclosure is crafted from aluminum and contains the rolling mechanism as well as an integrated speaker that is fronted by matching tonal fabric. The 0.2-millimeter-thick screen rises from the top of this box, supported by a spring steel backing.
