On Wednesday, May 22, Battery Technology Editor in Chief Michael Anderson (that’s me) will moderate a webinar titled 'Battery Testing: Navigating Current Standards, Certifications, & Strategies.' To bring us up to date on this topic, we’ve pulled together a team of experts worthy of the importance of battery testing.

Taking point in the webinar will be Charlie Parker, principal and founder of Ratel Consulting. Charlie is a co-author of the annual Volta Foundation Battery Report and a valuable source of knowledge and insight for Battery Technology.

“Battery testing and standards are the foundation of the entire battery industry from R&D through manufacturing. It influences everything from pricing to bankability and plays a key role in determining which battery technologies will make it to market,” Parker said. “While this important technical area receives relatively little coverage, this webinar will explore the processes, equipment, and people who are helping push battery technology forward and how it impacts the broader market."

Exponent Principal Scientist Ryan Spray and Senior Scientist YeYoung Ha will give an overview of the current existing battery standards and their contents. “We’ll also share a case study on commercial 18650 batteries to highlight why testing beyond the standards is critical,” Ha said. “Harmonization among different standards and strategies to minimize product failures will also be discussed.”

Then, Bjoern Stoll, President & CEO at Digatron Power Electronics USA, will take us through the state of the art in test systems for development and quality assurance, simulation systems for the testing of e-vehicle batteries, formation systems for the initial charging of cells and batteries, and the possibilities available in turnkey solutions, such as fully equipped test containers or fully automated formation systems for Lithium-ion cells.

Finally, I’ll moderate what is sure to be a lively Q&A period.

Please join us! Registration for the free webinar is here.
