The average US new car price is now over $47,000. For a long time, the big push in electric vehicles (EVs) has been to try to reach price parity with gasoline-powered internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Not only have EV prices come down, thanks largely to lower battery costs, but the price of ICE vehicles has been increasing. In fact, the long-term advantages of electrification—lower running and service costs and reduced emissions—have made EVs an increasingly attractive alternative to the fossil-fueled relic in your driveway.
We just looked at The 14 Most Expensive 2022 EVs, electrics that had a Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of over $100,000. Now, let’s look at the other end of the spectrum—EVs that have an MSRP at or below the $47,000 average new car price in the US. These are the 14 least expensive EVs that you can buy in 2022 in the US. We have listed them in order of MSRP, from lowest to highest. Keep in mind—that some of these EVs are also eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit and possibly state tax credits, so they might be significantly cheaper to buy than the prices we have listed.
