The big push in electric vehicles (EVs) has been to reach price parity with gasoline-powered internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. The theory is that once EVs and ICE vehicles cost the same the long-term advantages of electrification—lower running and service costs and reduced emissions—will help move their sales higher. It is getting easier and easier to find an EV priced at or below the average US new car price of $47,000.

But what about the other end of the spectrum? There are at least 14 EVs available in 2022 in the US with a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of over $100,000. These are luxury vehicles that go far beyond basic transportation and serve as the flagship models for automakers that want to prove their electrification prowess. Here are traditional performance and luxury brands like Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Porsche, but also more recent EV specialists like Tesla and Lucid.

Looking through the list you will see that some models are listed more than once—typically when a higher performance version costs much more and has a different, typically higher, specification. A price of more than $100,000 is a lot of money to spend on any vehicle and the makers of these EVs clearly understand that at these rarified prices giving the customer what they want is the key to sales success. We have listed them in order of MSRP, from lowest to highest.
