Electrification is sweeping the entire transportation industry. Reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emission remains the primary driving force for this revolution, but it turns out that switching away from internal combustion engines (ICEs) to electric vehicles (EVs) results in lower operating and maintenance costs and, in many cases, an improved driving or operating experience.

The variety of new electric vehicles is staggering. Everything from scooters to school buses to over-the-road heavy trucks is being redesigned for electric drive. The sea-change has been aided by the rapid development of better and less expensive battery systems along with a new understanding that electrification is here to stay.

Although the examples of this brave new world that we are presenting here is by no means complete, it does provide a glimpse into what the future (and in many cases the present) holds. We only considered land vehicles with wheels—add in other electrified transportation including subways, trains, boats, ships, airplanes, drones, jet skis, and snowmobiles and the list quickly becomes unmanageable.

Here are 15 examples of where the wonderful EV world of wheels is heading.
