Aside from the huge annual New York International Auto Show at the Jacob Javits center, most consumer-oriented automotive shows in the Greater New York City area tend to be geared toward enthusiasts of custom or specialty vehicles, often associated with car clubs. A regional vehicle show sponsored by a network of automotive dealers disappeared within the last decade, likely the victim of rising costs and perhaps some disinterest from a population now more into smartphones and other electronic gadgets.

But with electric vehicles attracting more general interest, a group of Electrify Expo shows has cropped up over the past few years in various locations throughout the US. This year, there was one held next to the Nassau Coliseum in the metropolitan New York City area, called Electrify Expo NY, which I found some time to attend on a very warm summer day. I was more than happy to get a press pass for the event and, through the pass, was grateful to obtain complimentary admission for a friend and his 8 year-old son.

A few vehicles pictured here will be familiar, having been covered by Design News colleague and Automotive Editor Dan Carney. But there were a few newer vehicles on display as well, which is not surprising considering the race automakers are in to expand their electric vehicle fleets particularly as stricter emissions standards are phased in. Besides cars and trucks, there were also some e-bikes and other vehicles on display, though I was a bit disappointed the variety of other electric vehicles wasn’t as extensive as the show promotions advertised.

Nevertheless, here’s a sampling of some electric vehicles and other interesting scenes from Electrify Expo NY.
