The auto industry had a tough year in 2020, with the COVID-19 pandemic eating into sales and revenue. In 2020, sales were down 16 percent compared to 2019, dropping to less than 78 million vehicles, the level of sales last seen in 2010.

Despite the tough times, the world’s automakers are moving forward with their plans to electrify the entire transportation sector. Some, like Tesla, only build electric vehicles (EVs), others, like General Motors (GM) have said that by 2035 it would phase out gasoline and diesel-powered cars and trucks and sell only vehicles that have zero tailpipe emissions.

We decided to look at the top 10 car manufacturers in the world, ranked by 2020 revenue (in US dollars), and see how extensive their EV plans are today, and what they have planned for tomorrow.

We’ll start with Number 10, Nissan.
